A few weeks ago,
I wrote about
the Slanket. A blanket with sleeves. Well, the guys behind the Slanket were kind enough to send me one to review. Like I said before, the Slanket is one of those "duh, why didn't I think of that" products. The concept is simple, put sleeves on a warm cozy blanket so you can work a remote, surf the web, read a book, or do pretty much anything without having to lift the covers (letting cold air invade your warm refuge). Invented by a cold college student freezing his tail off in Maine, the original Slanket was a sleeping bag his mom attached sleeves to. Today the Slanket has evolved into a large fleece blanket, suitable for use where ever you may get cold: in bed, on the couch, your favorite reading spot, at the big game, or at the campsite. Retailing for about $50, the Slanket is available in a variety of colors. So, is the Slanket worth your hard earned cash?
While many people may say, "why don't I keep my fifty bucks and just use a normal blanket?" To be honest, that's what I initially thought, until I received the Slanket. The large floppy sleeves keep your arms warm and toasty while still letting you use whatever. From surfing the net in my recliner, watching TV on the couch, or reading in bed, the Slanket kept me warmer than just using a "normal" blanket. Especially for activities where my hands and arms where constantly out from under the blanket. The only complaint that I have with the Slanket is that it can be too warm at times. The fleece that the Slanket is made of is an extremely warm fabric and may be overkill for some situations. (Now, being a Floridian - a South Floridian at that - what I consider cold may be comfortable to many of our northern readers. So, you may not have the same overkill issue that I did. Also our weather down here hasn't been exactly chilly either, so as temperatures drop I think my Slanket will become more useful.) Because the fleece is so heavy, I would like to see a Slanket option for those in warmer climates (or those of us that find anything under 75 degrees cold). Other than that I highly recommend the Slanket to anyone who has ever tried to warm up under a blanket while trying to still do, well, anything. It is definitely worth the $50. I give the Slanket 4.5 out of 5 G's.
