It's no secret that Firefox is the browser of choice here at Geek In Gear. But with so many extensions available, it's quite possible that my Firefox is completely different from yours and yours different from the next guy's. So how do I roll. For starters I am a Google fanatic, so I am loaded out with a full compliment of Google related plugins:
Gmail Notifier &
Google Calendar Notifier - I have my browser open all day, so these two gems make my life a lot easier. (They are pretty self explanatory so I will leave it to you to figure out what they do).
Google Notebook - For small blurbs from the web that I want to keep under my fingertips. Its a little better than a bookmark for some things, while others are just better suited to having the whole page bookmarked. So between my bookmarks and Google bookmarks I pretty well cover any functionality that I need.
Google Bookmarks Button - While I could use Firefox's built in bookmark functionality and the Google browser sync extension, I prefer to have my bookmarks available to me online so I can get at them from whatever browser I am in. Having this extension installed makes getting at my bookmarks easier on the computers I use on a daily basis.
As far as other extensions that grace my Firefox installs, I use:
Adblock Plus &
the Adblock Filterset.G Updater - If you want to get rid of annoying ads on websites then this is the combo you want to use. It automatically updates and does a great job of obliterating ads. (Of course everyone promises to turn Adblock off when they come to Geek In Gear because we want to be able to show my sponsors some love. Right...
;))
BugMeNot - Makes using BugMeNot.com so easy. Just right click on the username of the password protected site and let bug Me Not help you bypass those annoying registration screens for the
SINGLE NEWS ARTICLE you want to read (Do you hear me New York Times!!!! I am not bitter though).
If you are into web development, then I strongly suggest the
Web Developer Toolbar. Its built in tools replace a handful of extensions and are all placed on one easy to use toolbar.
That's about it for the Firefox extensions that have found homes inside my browser. What Firefox extensions do you use? Let us know in the comments.
